Risk Profile Questionnaire

Answer ten questions — the same kind a bank or broker would ask — and explore an educational risk range: how much risk a situation like this could absorb, how much nerves like these could tolerate, and what that range means in concrete portfolio numbers. It's a teaching tool, not advice about you.

What is the Risk Profile Questionnaire?

A financial-institution-style questionnaire that scores your risk capacity and risk willingness separately, then translates the result into concrete portfolio guardrails and example portfolios.

New here? How this works

Before choosing any portfolio it helps to think about two different questions: how much risk your situation could absorb (capacity), and how much your nerves could tolerate (willingness). This questionnaire asks the same kinds of questions a bank or broker would — time horizon, income stability, reserves, how you'd react to a 20% loss — scores the two dimensions separately, and takes the lower of the two, the way institutions generally do. It is an educational range built from ten answers, not a suitability determination about you. Your profile comes back as one of five risk bands with concrete guardrails (the maximum drawdown to be prepared for, a sensible volatility range, and a stock allocation range) plus example portfolios whose stock share sits inside that range — each shown with its real historical return, volatility, Sharpe ratio, and worst drawdown, and each checked against every guardrail so you can see which ones it actually stayed inside.

How to use it

  1. 1Answer the ten questions honestly — especially the one about how you'd react to a 20% loss. There are no wrong answers, only wrong portfolios.
  2. 2Read your profile: your band, your capacity and willingness scores, and which of the two sets the limit.
  3. 3Use the guardrails to judge any portfolio you're considering, and backtest or stress test the example portfolios in one click.

What you'll get

  • Your risk band (Conservative → Aggressive) with a 0–100 score
  • Separate risk-capacity and risk-willingness scores, and which one limits you
  • Concrete guardrails: max drawdown to prepare for, volatility range, stock allocation range
  • Example portfolios inside your stock range, each measured against every guardrail, with live historical CAGR, volatility, Sharpe, and max drawdown
  • One-click links to backtest or stress test each suggestion

Question 1 of 10: When do you expect to start withdrawing a meaningful share of this money?

Question 1 of 10Your situation

When do you expect to start withdrawing a meaningful share of this money?

The longer your money can stay invested, the more time it has to recover from downturns.

How the Risk Profile Questionnaire works

Each answer carries 0–100 points; questions are weighted and averaged into two scores — risk capacity (horizon, spending plans, income stability, reserves, concentration, age) and risk willingness (loss reaction, gain/loss tradeoffs, experience, stated comfort). The final score is the minimum of the two, mapped to five risk bands. Suggested portfolios' statistics are computed from real dividend-reinvested history with monthly rebalancing over up to the last 15 years.
